Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a young girl, she relocated from London to Oxfordshire where she studied at The Dragon School. Emma had a dream to become an actor when she was just at the age of six. She studied at Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford, an acting institute with part-time courses. In a school play and the stage of a Stagecoach show, she was the lead at the age 10 and performed. Casting began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered as a casting representative by her Oxford drama instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been chosen for these parts. The cast included Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. The film set records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and became the top-grossing movie in 2001. Critics praised the film and the performances of the three leading actors of the young generation. The widely distributed British paper The Daily Telegraph called her performances admirable. Emma's performance received nominations and later won awards for the movie.
